Interesting game! I think to improve it:

  • The torch reveal animations and cutscenes are really cool and interesting, but even starting as early as on the first hard level, it gets pretty repetitive and it slows down gameplay a lot to check this again and again and negatively affects replayability right off the bat in a pretty significant way.
    • Taking for example the level that's preceded by the text saying it's hard and reminding you to double jump:
      • I think both the initial torch showing from the right where it reveals the level, and the one where it shows it coming from the left along with the giant red saw should be both skippable by pressing a key on the keyboard.
      • Those who want to see it again can just not press it and just watch it how many times they want, while those who want to just try the level again can press it twice to skip both and then they're able to try to play the level again as quickly as possible.
        • Actually, to be even better, I think it should just be once to skip both of them. So if someone waits they see all of it. If they press a key instead, they skip right to the part where you would be standing at the beginning after both torch cutscenes and the saw should be immediately to your left coming at you and you can start playing.
        • It's really weird because you're able to move and die during the cutscenes, which makes me feel like it may have even been intentional.
          • Instead, I think it's unnecessary padding, (whether you meant it or not), and should be tweaked.
            • However it's not game breaking, so it should be considered after the jam, not now.

Other than the above the lighting effect is really cool and the concept with the torch is interesting. The sound effects are cool as well and some of them sound kind of funny. Nice job!
