I had installed the prior version with the itch desktop app. It does not seem to work anymore to install it that way (it now says you need to download from a third party page). So that is also the reason why an update fails. I reinstalled it manually now and that works.

I see. I didn't know about that. Hopefully itch.io approves the increase and I can go back to uploading the game directly on their server, so this feature also works.
