Hmmm, that's rather odd. Difficult for me to say what it might be, but upon startup Renpy does save a log.txt file (same folder where the .exe is), which might give some clues to what is causing it.
The log didn't prove much help, but turns out it was a graphics driver issue after all, my bad. It opens fine on my old laptop. I checked nvidia to find the driver I had was from 2023 and it opens for me now after getting the latest
