I’m pretty sure I was using Luca’s (Lotus) Refresh, so in and of itself I automatically like having them.
Also, in regards to them being impractical, I think that’s part of them being fun. It’ll be funny if one is literally just one that just creates a mid-battle sex scene and it’s only role it to counterattack because the user is mad they get interrupted. That’s way more fun than say, a generic counterattack status.
In terms of battle mechanics, they don’t have to be super great every time. All it takes is one winner and it’s instantly worth it to have. I almost always use magic characters, so what appeals to me probably won’t appeal to someone who always uses the knife-evasion characters. In the same way, there might be more combat value in them than you see as a single person (I might be not properly understanding well how a dev looks at mechanics here.)
- I think it’d be really helpful to give Luca a way to regen MP mid-fight, and oh look, here’s a way to make it more interesting than just saying “Recovered MP.”
I think they have potential as both battle mechanics and as characterization. And also as just being fun. That is a part of why I’m playing a a sexy game, after all.
I could go on and on about this, bring up other games and how I use like maybe 12% of their characters, but some of them I use entirely because I’m into what they do mid-battle, rather than because they’re practical. How I build around some characters entirely to use their less efficient combat lewds. I’d be here all day though, and you probably don’t wanna read all that.
