Game Title/URL:

RuffTale: https://mindlessruff.itch.io/rufftale

Pitch/Information: Adventures of a silly puppy in an icy world. I have a simple prototype of my game with a main character and some enemies.

I'd like feedback on: What should I focus on for the end of the jam?

  • Refining the enemy AI, breath mechanics
  • Adding more levels, perhaps through procedural generation
  • How can I make the core gameplay more fun?

I know I should make it more clear how to interact with the NPC, there is no indication you have to press 'E' to advance the dialog box.

Hey, nice work!

I noticed a couple of little things when I was playing that seemed a little unexpected.

  • When you move down, the dog turns upside down. It made me laugh at first, but still seemed a little odd.
  • When you’re facing to the right and press F the breath comes out of the dog’s mouth, when you’re facing left it appears to come out of a different orifice…

I think the enemy AI is fine. They found me, they attacked me, and I destroyed them with my mighty breath. I took some damage, but I wasn’t too close to death after a 3 on 1 encounter.

It might be nice to have some way to regain health.

It seems to be coming along quite nicely, I look forward to seeing the end result.

Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it. I will need to program the breath to spawn in front of the character and fix the issue flipping upside down. Only thing I cannot fathom is how to allow the player to shoot while running away. Maybe the character sprite should turn in the direction of the mouse?

Hi MindlessRuff,

This game looks nice. I think your story is good and the art is superb, did you do it yourself? My suggestion on how you can improve this game is:

Refining the enemy AI, breath mechanics:

1. The breath is not always pointing in the direction of the nose.

2. Another thing I noticed is that I did not die once the health reached zero, the health also displays negative numbers.

except that I cannot come up with any feedback, well done!

Thanks for checking out my progress. Yes I did draw everything myself, I spend some time before the jam learning pixel art from scratch! I will come up with a way to change the breath mechanic and allow the character to respawn when their health reaches 0.
