Hi Leafo,  thanks for your answer.  The issue on the Restricted field is that if I wanted to guide a group of people to play my gmae (it's part of a workshop I teach) then I would temporaily change the password in that field so they could access it without ever knowing my game password.  Then after the class I would change the Restricted PW back to my game PW so that if anyone who played the game before would not be able to access it again.   But the last few times I tried it, the access page that requests the PW would say it was the wrong one.  I would be forced to give my actual game PW.    If you have advice, I'd appreciate your thoughts.

I don’t know what you mean by “actual game PW”.

The restricted password option only allows for one password at a time. If you change the password then old one will no longer work. Anyone who was accessing the page with the old password will no longer be able to access the page and will be asked to enter a password again. This is by design.

If you want to grant someone more permanent access to the page then I recommend using download keys and having them connect it to an account, then they will be able to access the page in restricted mode without the need for passwords.

Thanks - but  what you're saying is what I mean. And it doesn't work.   I change the PW so people can play the game.  I do this knowing the old one wont work.  I do not want to grant permanent access with a downlod key.  Nor do my clients want to have to create an itch account.

After they played (using the new PW) I would change the PW so they could not access the game.  What I'm saying is, the last few times I did this the new PW, even though I saved the change via the button) would not work.  I can only use the original PW.  That's a problem in the Restricted Access design.

Can you confirm what password you see on the project’s edit page after you save the new password and refresh the edit page. Do you see the invalid old password or does the new password appear there?

The new password appears.  Today I tried it again; both changing to a temp PW and going back to the original and today it worked.  So somehow this conversation got it to working.   I'll test it again sometime.

I appreciate your time and your advice.
