Yes, I'm using the animation timeline myself for the animations. I often go even beyond. 

For example The Cylia animation on the chest is exported 4 times on seperate layers and the visual effects are made outide of the initial animation render software.

Often the initial animation renderer is too limited. This is why things like shines, particles are made further down the pipeline.

One more question, Are the character models made by you in Koikatsu? No yoinked/stolen models? 

There is not much point in stealing as it doesn't take as long to create the characters.
