Really nice way of presenting the narrative in the beginning! Awesome art too. I also liked the way the enemy projectiles kind of wobbled forward, much more interesting than a simple straight trajectory. 
I felt like the control scheme could be further simplified by not needing to press space, simple press left to shoot left, up to shoot up e.t.c. I got used to it quickly but can't find a reason to have picking direction and firing on different buttons.

You make a really good point about the controls, I guess I didnt really think about it, but theres never a reason to not shoot, so its weird to have a shooting button, thank you for your feedback and kind words!!
