Losing work always sucks. I (eventually) learned to save early and save often with Flash and GZDoom Builder, which at the time were very unstable and dumped a lot of work. You may want to look into source control (usually Git but there are others) if you haven't already.

How long have you been working on this game? It looks pretty polished and playable already!

I'm definitely backing up often! What's really insidious about this engine bug is that it corrupts both the project and auto-back files together, destroying everything. I have to manually backup my work to insure it's safe. This doesn't happen very often, but when it does it really stinks.

Thanks! I got a little head start on the character artwork when I noticed that the rules allowed pre-made art, free art, etc. Since I make all my own art, that can bog me down a lot, so I figured it was fair to start building that early if pre-made assets were allowed. I started that about a week before the official "launch." I still have a ton more to make though. DX

The game build itself, I've only worked on it for a few days. Last May I started doing "Weekly Game Jam" submissions (17 under my belt now) and participated in "Devtober 2019" in the fall. Jamming through so many games has definitely built up my speed when it comes to scripting out a basic game. Even yesterday, when I lost the 4-6 hours of work, rebuilding it took less than 2.  I find the more I make, the faster it goes. But I'm sure some game-breaking bug will come to haunt me in the finals hours of the Jam, it always does. ;-;
