Hi quatapus.

Unfortunately, not right now. Us devs don't have access to the passthrough mode, but oculus has hinted that they may allow us to use it in the future. Cross fingers.

Use the nose gap, go slowly and be careful. Start with a rough outline. You'll only need to do the setup once, you can adjust later, and it'll get easier to make little adjustments one you have the basic shape set up.

It's also possible to just rest the quest on top of your head (so you aren't looking through it) and walk around to mark all the corners.

I'll put together a "best practices" guide once I finish the update I'm releasing today. Good luck, sorry the first step can be painful.. I'm trying to clean it up as much as I can.

i must be doing something wrongbecause i cannot figure out how to even start. i thought i had mapped my apt but when i came TPB, it did try to start with anchors but my mapping seemed super small, right around me and i cant seem to figure out the anchors. i dont see that fancy interfac from the video. please help the old guy

I can map the walls and objects, but can't set anchors. Then I'm stuck and just have to exit the program.

Hi Kiljoy. You've run into a bug, and i'll be adding a fix for this next week.

What's happening (I think) is that you are setting your anchor down against a wall, and so the console is spawning directly inbetween these two anchor points, but is slightly behind the wall. So the process completes, you dont see a console at all (is hidden in the wall) and cannot continue.

The current 'fix' is basically to just setup with an anchor that isn't directly flush with a wall, but none of this is obvious to a new user so, mega apologies,,, you just hit a wall and couldn't continue!

See the response above. If you cant seem to map an area bigger than a few feet around you, its because you have disabled Tracking instead of disabling the guardian.

Hey, the issue here is i think you've disabled Tracking, instead of disabling the oculus guardian. Use settings/developer/guardian OFF.

If you disable tracking, then you can't actually move within your space, and the barrier will only be a small cube that you draw around you.

Ah, yeah I was surprised dropping in for the first time that it was immediately asking me to mark walls and objects and I had no idea how I was supposed to do that. To be honest, even suggesting "peeking through the nose gap", I'm not really sure how I'm supposed to align virtual points to physical with any accuracy. Guide definitely needed!

guide incoming, sorry for the confusions here.

Setup is a tricky process, but you'll only need to run through it once. Once you've got a basic outline setup, it'll be a lot easier to make adjustments, you can add on sections or tweak things later on.

I'll copy/paste some extra info into this thread in about 20mins.

The big drawback is oculus does not allow devs to access passthrough, so I can't show you a transparent overlay or anything. This might change eventually, and I'll implement immediately.

Right now, the setup is something you only need to do once, but it's a slow, careful process. My advice would be to start small, setup a single room or two connected rooms, and you can add on to a larger space later once you find a good anchor setup.

So, how do you actually map? Well, nose gap is what I find easiest. Don't be super precise, pull your walls in a bit tighter than the real ones. Walk the perimeter and hit the main corners, and then use large cubes to block over sections of objects (rather than many small cubes to mark individual chairs, just mark the whole chairs/table as a big cube)

If nose gap is not cool, you can try doing it 'blind' (rest the quest on top of your head , but above your eyes) and mark corners (you'll feel vibrations for each click)

I guess you can also enable the handy "double tap for passthrough" feature in the settings, but it might not activate if guardian is off.. I gotta test.

I admit, it's a pain. Especially for those who have large playspaces. But it's worth it, even having a rough setup with an anchor, you'll be able to use the rest of the app and can fine-tune things later on.

If we could use passthrough to map it would make it much simpler - tried mapping and i end up on the other side of the walls

agreed. Oculus doesn't allow devs to access it, otherwise I'd implement it.

Closest thing is making a normal oculus guardian , just a foot inside the wall barrier, and then do the setup with the guardian on. When you get close to a wall, it activates passthrough but you can still see the game as well. It's not ideal, game falls apart if you step too far into passthrough, but might help with a tricky setup.

I'm working on a best practices guide, will post this weekend. Even if you can get a rough setup/anchor in place at first, it becomes easier to edit walls/add new sections later on.

Oculus has hinted that they may allow devs to access passthrough feeds in the future. I dunno if I'm "important" enough to hassle them, but I'll try. A mixed mode would just be ideal.
