Nice neon presentation with very tight and engaging controls and enemy combinations, tied together with a use of the theme that doubles as difficulty customization. A fun time.
- My favorite part was the enemies chosen and how they combined, with the soldier not being a 'threat' but then getting in the way when you were trying to defeat the threats behind it.
I really liked how the the use of the theme ended up creating a difficulty option, letting you have more health etc but accepting you wouldn't get the highest score, but still have fun if you're not great at these bullet hell-y games.
And I liked the skins to give an easy more permanent reward for multiple runs.
The sounds are great, especially stuff like the recognizable explosion of the enemy that shoots out bullets to help give you a heads up if you didn't see it.
A good selection of powerups too that feel good to have available.
- I think the fields grid would have benefited from being a darker color. Unless intentional it made the enemies and projectiles occasionally more difficult to see which affected the flow of the game and distracted me.
Often powerups were hard to see/got missed amongst the particles of the enemy itself dying. It would be nice if they were darker colors on a white glow backdrop instead to easily standout.
