Why is Pluto not considered a planet?! It IS a planet, I don't understand why people say it's too small to be one. Just because it's small, doesn't mean it's not the same thing.

Pluto is not a planet. It has not been one since 2006, unless you want to say there are like over 50 planets in the solar system.

(+6)

That is exactly what I want to say. Let's do this.

YEES

If it was once considered a planet, why would they bother changing it? That's the thing I don't get. If it's got the attributes of a planet, then it should be considered a planet. And yes, I WOULD like to say there are over 50 planets in the solar system. Having more planets being considered planets gives us more places for discovery, and the smaller the planet is the easier it will be getting all the data from them that we need.

you know, you aren't very smart are you...

the "requirements" to eb a planet, are subjective, and could potentially change in the future. Either way, its a celestial body, ssame way the earth is, so it could in theory be a planet.

It is incredibly small, and not to mention inside of the kuiper belt which has many more celestial objects, not to mention a couple dwarf planets in addition to pluto. Unless you want to name every object in the asteroid and kuiper belt a planet, calling a planet would be definitely incorrect.

(1 edit)

Its because we have several more such dwarf planets orbiting around the sun, if we would include them all we would be around 15 I immagine (feel free to do some research if you want the exact answer)
