this could be an alright game, with a few modifications

controls: controller support is a big plus! but i’m surprised to see up-to-jump, a control scheme that’s so frequently advised against and rarely if ever used in commercial games

mechanics: collision/physics seems off. you can press yourself against the side of a platform and never fall, and sometimes even jump off the sides of them. but then also you can be standing on the corner unable to jump or even move more than a pixel or two per second until you eventually make your way back onto the thing

art: the character animation is good! blinks a bit too much perhaps, and ought to be able to face to the right at some point, but overall nice. worth noting is that the brick background looks tileable, but for some reason there are borders between the tiles

level design: this intro level is quite a bit too small to really get a feel for the controls, and there isn’t anything to engage with

overall it’s a pretty good start, plagued by bugs both graphical and in terms of gameplay. i’d love to see a polished version with more content :3

Thanks for such detailed feedback! I actually plan to submit this game (though with adding more content) to another Jam, so your insight is very useful for me. Make a separate button for jump probably indeed a good idea.
