i'm sorry but game creators time and time again keep showing how little they think of black people when making character creation.....for one, the range of skin shades is awful, it goes from a light olive to darkskin without anything in between? and there are 0 black hair options anyway (or even anything REMOTELY close, they're all wavy/straight?)

I hear this games story is good so I intend on playing it in full at some point, but it was very disheartening opening the game just to get reminded that black players are an afterthought again.

Hi, I agree that EL's character customization is insufficient and too limited. I should have added better choices, and I'm sorry it left you disheartened. I appreciate the feedback, thank you--and if you do decide to play it again, I hope you enjoy it.

I'm sorry, what??? Your comment makes no sense, there are six skin tones and there is an equal amount of light to dark ones. Also, this is a FICTIONAL GAME. The skin tones don't have to adhere to real life, this is a FANTASY SETTING with literal pale white ELVES in the game!!! You're mad that your EXACT complexion and undertone is not in a game set in a fantasy world? Huh? Are you mad about black representation in Star Wars as well, set on alien planets? Avatar with the blue people? Sis LMAO. Like wtaf.

Ignoring all that even...She made this game as ONE PERSON, and having even six tones is difficult even for full studios of people. Do you realize that it costs hundreds to thousands of dollars for games to include different skin tones? Because they have to make the changes to all the CG art pieces and so the price gets hefty. You've clearly never put in any work or thought into the process at all and it shows. She is the artist herself so it must've taken her a ton of time. But she still tried to be inclusive in this FREE game and, rather target other developers that don't gaf and don't try, you targeted her because her attempt wasn't to your liking.

You can't even say that about the hairstyles because not all BW wear their hair in their natural kinky texture. Hair texture is not limited to one race.  (Not every black person has afro hair to begin with, there are some BP and other dark skin races that have straight hair. This game never specified that the dark skin tones = afro-descent at that. There are other races with that skin tone. And again...FICTIONAL GAME. NO ONE in the game has African descent lol!)

It's so disappointing because this sort of comment is so Boy Who Cried Wolf. I get your frustrations in general because I am a BW myself but this is unfounded at this developer. You should be spending more time targeting million dollar companies that don't make effort. Get mad at games set or based upon reality, not at games set in fantasy world with elves and dragons. Seems a bit absurd.

1. I never said anything about the characters in the story, I was commenting on the character customization options. Also, the max amount of shades needed to get a half-decent one for everyone would be about 10. That's really not a lot. I'm not asking for 30 different shades with all different undertones and sh*t.

2. Star Wars does not have character customization. Those are movies. This point is completely irrelevant to what I'm saying.

3. Drawing 2D people and making skin extra options (Just changing the color of their skin and nothing else about the face) does not cost hundreds/thousands of dollars. That's literally a blatant lie lol. A 3D game perhaps.

4. Very bold assumption I haven't also made the complain about other developers, have you seen every comment I've ever made in my life?

5. Black people's hair texture is limited to the black race, there are no fully white people with 4C hair and the like. Also, other dark skin races aren't relevant, and the percentage of black people whose hair grows out of their head bone straight is an extremely low percentage, and a BW would know that.

6. If the game is going to blatantly not include a single (not one) hair option that matches the natural hair of (THE VAST MAJORITY OF) an entire race, it's not inclusive. I'm not asking for a billion options, just 1 afro or something would've done the job. If the game had no character customization I wouldn't say anything, but since it does, I'm allowed to critique the clear disregard for including any hairstyles for black people who wear their natural hair (because again, the vast vast majority of black people's natural hair isn't straight/wavy, and of course, some people don't wear their hair natural but that doesn't contradict my point.) because the point of character creation is to...create yourself. So it doesn't really matter whether or not the game is based in reality.

7. Again, you have no idea what companies I've "targeted" before, why assume I haven't done that?

Enough with the irrelevant arguments and strawmen, please.

"I never said anything about the characters in the story, I was commenting on the character customization options. " Well let's get it out the way that the main character herself IS A CHARACTER IN THE STORY.  So what sort of semantics argument is this?? Anyways-...

Literally nothing I said was a strawman, perhaps you should stop trying to use buzz words you hear online without knowing how to use them. I also never assumed you did not complain to other developers, but that you direct your energy at the wrong ones. You chose to gloss over the entire point of what I was saying just because you wanted to fuss. I'm not about to re-iterate myself over and over to someone set in their ways of crying wolf. I will only say it one more time: This game does NOT have to be inclusive to Afro features because AFRICA DOES NOT EXIST IN THIS FANTASY WORLD. If you could use that thing between your ears, you would see that's the point I was making with Star Wars. Just because they offer customization that has dark skin textures does NOT mean they have to include kinky hair, because it's a fantasy setting with no Africa. You assumed also that dark skin = African, when there are tons of races with dark skin that aren't descended from Africa and thus have different features. It's arrogant to assume dark skin = African because we're not the only black and dark skinned people on this earth. And that's THE REAL WORLD, not a fantasy setting at that. Kinky hair texture is (MOSTLY) exclusive to people descending from Africa, you're arguing a point I never made. My point is the vice versa: straighter hair textures are NOT exclusive to non-black and dark-skinned people. Black people, both descended from Africa and not descended, can and DO have straight hair. And also, people of other races that have dark skin can have straight hair. (Indian people?? To name one of TONS. The dark skin tone in this game could've been Indian, so why did you assume African???)

Yeahhh no I didn't lie about the art, the more customization you add, the more the price goes up. Kickstarter shows price breakdowns all the time but this is just one example I found.

https://toadhousegames.com/blog/2021/4/2/cost-breakdown-of-a-visual-novel

They state their breakdown of art very clearly. Costs add up with art, beyond the thousands. Just because you don't know the value of artists and don't value them does not make their value any less. Of course, you can shop around for cheaper artists if you want but the fact of the matter is is that it costs thousands to create multiple different customized characters. Again, otome kickstarters and artist commission pages are your friends as well. There are better breakdowns than this image below but the art is the majority of the pay for a lot of projects. This woman did this entire game by herself save for the art so her value is in her time of making this FREE game while doing literally everythinggg else in the game. Have you ever written for a game? Researched for a plot? Made art? Programmed a game? I have done a couple of these, and it takes a very long time for one role alone. In this instance, the artists currency was in her time. Had she gotten paid as an artist for every single art asset, she would've gotten paid a few thousand had she charged a standard rate.

But like I said, you clearly do not care to listen to any reason; your ears are closed. There's no point saying anything more to you. Just a shame that you cry wolf without being willing to listen and so everyone rolls their eyes when real issues come up and we're really treated badly by gaming companies. You just weaken the real arguments that need to be had by getting triggered like this.

Have a good life. I proved everything I said, there's nothing else you can say that isn't just bitter arguing so what's the point? So I refuse to even comment back.  I'll just block at this point tbh and won't be receiving your notifications anymore.

Keep crying Triggered Wolf, I guess...with the keyboard activism. Taking a stand against the bad guys! You're doing great!!!1!
