This was a really great game, especially for a jam! Obviously, the gameplay loop itself is fun, but I also really liked the small touches. The hippo's expressions when something happened to the ship, the parallax scrolling present especially during take-off, and the best thing would be how obstacles double as collectables, making them basically extra armor shells. As for what I'd like to see improved (just nitpicks, really):

  • When you get a lot of coins, the coin counting animation takes quite a while. I know it can be skipped, but I thought I should mention it.
  • It's not immediately obvious what upgrades you can buy with the currency you have by that point, so maybe the ship UI could be touched up a bit, so you don't always have to read through all of them?
  • As it has been pointed out, the game really ends quickly when some upgrades get to a high level. Is there any reason why the game couldn't go on beyond 330,000 feet? I wanted to see how far I could push the More Water Horsepower upgrade, but I couldn't collect any more rain.

That's about it, just really minor things. Obviously in a jam you can't get everything perfectly, and what you managed to do is already insane. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for playing! It's really wonderful to get positive feedback on aspects I spent a lot of time on, however small. I appreciate it :)

I appreciate nitpicks in game jams! Yeah, I could easily expand my current coin animation method. I think right now it only adjusts up to 1000 per frame, so not nearly enough for the lategame nonsense. I would have loved to do a "highlight purchasable" system for the upgrades, but it didn't make it off the idea board unfortunately. The upgrade UI really ended up limiting me, too. Next time I'll add more flexibility and use the space better. My initial idea was to have space be it's own exploration tier, but of course that got cut for scope creep in the end. The game actually has space dragons in the files, but I never got to implement them properly. It'd be fun to add distant planets and other things, too. Lots of potential for a 'late game' if I kept developing.

Thanks again for checking it out, I really appreciate it !
