I only just started playtesting but here is one major advice: Add some sort of log or error message.

My game just crashed and I am afraid I cannot tell you why outside of "I just deleted something a couple seconds ago".
In the same vein, with your game taking on an advanced form, I would maybe consider adding auto save so you don't lose everything on crash. I actually now see that there is some sort of auto save functionality. Somehow it didn't save the game that crashed earlier.

- My biggest issue is not being able to tell how many farmer goods can sustain how many pops

- Maybe wood could be a bit more relevant like for upgrading houses

Thanks for the feedback again.  I played through the whole game and fixed every bug I encountered so its strange that it's crashing before the 5 minute auto save mark.  I added a quick update to display the type of exception when the game crashes.  I'll also look into adding a log file to show exactly where and how the crash occurred.
