Very nice! One of my favorite games this jam. I feel that both this game and Sweetdigger have value beyond being just gamejam games, as a way to bridge the generation gap between younger and older shmup players. I've personally become interested in trying out the original arcade games after playing your versions, so you're effectively acting as a kind of cultural ambassador.

About the game itself, I feel that it needs to award score for completing the stages fast even more than Sweetdigger. Since the difficulty is much lower this time around, the lack of a good scoring system severely lowers the replay value for the average player. Furthermore, the sushi-scoring system sometimes encourages the player to stall, so a time bonus would balance that and make optimal play more exciting. Unrelated to scoring, the lag is a bigger issue compared to Sweetdigger, since it makes it difficulty for me to easily change direction of the locked shot angle by just quickly releasing 'b'. Less importantly, the collision between player and lanterns is a bit rough: when I played around with it, I managed to both teleport through a lantern and to clip inside it (which cost me a life), but it was only a minor issue during normal play.

If these issues were fixed, I'd feel comfortable recommending this game to any Touhou fan, not just as a jam game but as a good fan game. Regardless, I'm looking forward to playing more of your games in the future.
