I would think for $200 the pocket could run a gb rom? Why does it need a special format?

Piracy

(1 edit)

The creators of the pocket want to make that token effort of not being associated with piracy so have taken some minimal steps to make sure that you cannot load roms. But they have also partnered with GB Studio to make a workaround with games created with GB Studio. So here we are.

Unfortunately since this is just a small project I have no plans to port it to the pocket format. If you want to play it on a pocket I think you'll have to get an EZ Flash JR but it sounds like you'd need that anyways.

Is porting required? GBStudio devs said you just need to export for pocket instead of for gb

What you say is true if you make a game with GB Studio 3. It just came out within the last week though. All of the GB Studio games that have been created so far were on version 1 or 2 so the porting would be migrating to the new version which is a pretty big task.

Hello,
I created a fork a GB Studio 2 that export natively game in pocket file.

I don't know if migrating a game from 1.0 to 2.0 breaks stuff, so maybe only works for game made with the 2.0. If you have any issue with it, don't hesitate to contact me.
