This game made me really habbee!
As with the best Metroidvanias, I had to collect everything! I'm pretty sure I got it all. I even went back to that early stage breakable platform thinking there was a secret there. I liked the world too much. i didn't want to leave it yet.
The art here is amazing and cohesive. You squeezed so much out of the assets you made. I love it. The animations are spectacular (when they worked, sometimes my smash down wouldn't animate, the platform would break though). I'd also watch for making sure things like the honeycombs are on the layer beneath the player so you don't end up with stuff like this:
I've been watching this come along on Twitter and didn't know what to expect as far as gameplay and I was so happy and surprised you took the Metroidvania route. I want to keep exploring this world and gaining new abilities.
I think the movement needs some tweaking to feel more satisfying. There's nothing wrong with lumbering movement, in fact I think it fits the character design well, but like GhostBit said, give me a little more love on that jump because some of the simple jumps were a challenge because the window for getting it right is so tight. Climbing the walls was like a totally different character because I could move so fast and the animations were at lightning speed.
I'd remove the need to crouch before rolling and slamming and just give them their own buttons. I feel like I could move around more fluidly if that were the case.
^none of that affects my rating and wasn't part of the requirement. I just really enjoyed this game and wanted to leave feedback on what I noticed. When it comes to making an original character with a unique ability, I think you did a Beeautiful job!
