I am not sure if I played it right but I placed all bottles, heared a sound and nothing happend.I tried opening the door with the key but it would not let me through.Also the bottles often would just fall through the floor.
The potions are only one of the two puzzles. The sound you heard was up to let you know you finished that puzzle.
