Okay. First, let's get that out of the way : I hate you for the tiny jumpscare. It's a small one, so it's okay-ish I guess, but I really, really, really hate them x).
Now, for the real review : OH MY GOD that was incredible. The atmosphere, the audio, the graphics, the music, the voice acting, the experience... Everything go together and tell the story so well, I really felt like that little children who see strange things at night. The growing music dissonance during the ending, making all the little simple actions creepier and creepier... That was just genius, a real example of how to set the mood in a video game (even if it ended by... You know what xD).
The level design is also fantastic. The room is a perfect playground and the fact that we can interact with everything really contributes to the ambiance. The puzzle difficulty was perfect, each level bringing something new and exciting, I really wanted to know what did the next night have for me during the whole playthrough ! Everything is so polished, for a 7 days jam, this is just incredible.
I have two minor complains, just two little things to keep in mind for your next game ^^ :
- The voice acting is really good, but being a non-native english, I would have loved some subtitles. With the echo of the "demon" or the muffled effect on the mother's voice, I didn't catch certain words ^^'.
- The mouse controls felt... Strange. Picking up and releasing an item with a different button felt a bit illogical. I think something like "LMB = pickup/drop, RMB = rotate, MMB = throw" would have been better. Or even copying the common FPS layouts, with the "E" key to pickup/drop, "left click" to throw, "right clic" to rotate.
But these are just two minor points, everything else is just perfect. Congratulations to the team, that was a wonderful experience !
