There's two aspects to the game, you can either try for a high-score (as many escapes as possible) or try and find the secret ending and really escape. The maze becomes bigger every 4 doors and the enemies that spawn at the middle are your former selves, they do exactly what you did, one for each previous escape. That's why we reset you to the middle, so that you can both follow your past selves but also have to avoid them. We could've communicated this more clearly (we felt too many hints would've taken away from the spooky, mysterious atmosphere).

The secret ending is more of an Easter-egg, the real game is supposed to be going for a high-score (our internal record is 18 escapes). To unlock it, you need to find two items and then you'll get a textbox with a strong hint on what to do next. The items have a high chance of spawning early, and they remain in the same spot until you find them.
