Try resting at the inn for food.
if forage disapeard, what's the use of the perk, then?
It didn't - it just happens automatically (with a much greater success spread) when you hit 0 food. That encounter can still eventually game over you, though, but the Forager perk makes that (and the better outcomes) much more likely.
