The player character's "Oh no, I don't want that!" veneer is paper-thin and manufactured by the people holding them captive. It exists to keep them compliant, but interesting. There's a scene in the demo where you're told this, more or less. It's how the PC can go from "Oh no! I hate this!" to willingly bad-ending on a dime. It's part of their conditioning, and not entirely within their control.

It doesn't seem to come through very well. It just feels like we're making decisions for the MC instead of as the MC.
