This game's art and animation are a delight! It's obviously in early development, but even the parts that are only sketches have a charm that looks promising. The music and sound design (as far as I've had the chance to experience them) are already worthy of a finished game.
I had several issues with the UI that I'd better bring to your attention:
- The game gave the interaction button for a game controller, but didn't tell what key to use for those using keyboard controls. (I eventually figured out it was "E", because this shows over the doors, but only the doors.)
- The first two times I tried playing with a controller plugged in (I used a Logitech Gamepad F310), the numbers "0 1 2 3" appeared in the middle of the screen in a diamond pattern and wouldn't go away, and all animations were extremely slow. The third time I played, I only observed this when I moved the right controller stick on purpose. So there might be a stick drift issue here.
- The tool tips and HUD are in English, but the NPCs and player character speak to each other in Spanish.
- I can't exchange essences for plastic. When I played using keyboard controls only, something was wrong with the menu. I couldn't make a purchase, nor could I close the exchange menu. I had to use the task manager to quite the game. When I played using my controller (the time it worked), the exchange guy wasn't even there, nor could I open the menu by pressing Y where he would have been. (Update: he finally showed up, after I tabbed out to type this comment and then tabbed back in.)
- The hunger and sleep bars go to red/yellow extremely quickly, and I'm not sure what they do.
On the plus side, the look and feel of the player character's jumping and dashing movements is excellent.
I look forward to seeing the UI issues resolved, so that I can experience your game more fully. Feel free to get in touch with me any time you'd like a usability tester.
