I kind of had to force myself to stop playing once I figured out how it works - real fun!
Got my high score to 23.

The range of the attack seemed a little short and sometimes I would get so high up it was impossible to see myself. Maybe adding a ceiling for the player or a marker that showed you where you were horizontally on the screen would help. At least the big enemies bounce off the ceiling.

Also resetting the players attack cooldown on hit might give some use for attacks that don't attack downwards. That would let players ping-pong around the level more fluidly.
