The game seemed to be incomplete at this point. The intro was great, so is the artstyle and the music, but when it comes to the actual gameplay, there are problems.

For one, there seem to be "enemies" wandering around, but they don't actually do anything. You can't even hit them with the snowballs. The only thing you can hit with the snowballs are these "elf scarecrows" that are all over the place. The only way to lose health seems to be fall damage, but I only found one place where the fall is long enough for that to happen.

You can find a key that allows you to open a bunch of doors and when you destroy all the "elf scarecrows" in the building, the friendly elf from the beginning turns angry and moves to an unlocked door. Otherwise, nothing happens. There is one more locked door that leads to a room in the basement, but there doesn't seem to be a way to access it. Well, there's a toy helicopter in the room with the locked basement door and you can interact with it so that it hovers in the air for a few moments, but there doesn't seem to be a point to it? Anyway, if there's an ending to this game, I can't reach it.

Aside from that, the base mechanics seem to be pretty clunky, like you get stuck on a bunch of things that seem to have way too large of a collision box and throwing a snowball takes a really long time during which time you are locked in place and can't do anything. If the enemies actually did anything, that would be very annoying. Also, while you are climbing, if you press the Throw Snowball button, you get stuck in the same place for the duration of the Throw Snowball animation. But there's no animation, just the starting pose and you don't actually throw a snowball.

But I actually enjoyed playing it, for what's it worth. And the visuals and music are great, it just needs a lot of polish when it comes to the gameplay. If you want to work on this further and finish it, you can start right now. You can update your games at any time.

Thanks for the feedback I did hope to get a little further and had to hustle to put certain challenges (scare crows) in place to as you said create some small semblance of game play.

It was my first time trying rigged 2D so a lot of my time was spent experimenting with that. I did want it to be the elves were your friends and so you wouldn’t snow ball them - until you steal Santa sack and they go evil. So that may kind of explain there non reaction to balls (if I made it a little further I would have had buttons instead of scarecrow you could only trigger by throwing as a feature for progression).

Again thanks for the feedback and taking the time to play. I really like the jam and I know this was low brow horror next time I will bring the gore 😈

merry Xmas to all the Horror Game Jam family!
