To add to what Denjicsmmakima said, you need to be in Act Two and be able to exit the Manor before the UI will appear

At the top of the screen, on the right hand side, you should see a collection of icons. Click the one that looks like a heart, then click the girl you want to see a hint for. At the bottom of the screen that pops open you should see a box that says "HINT:" followed by the hint for the girl's progression :)
