Concise, though I need one thing clarified: On a successful save against a phobia, "your character instantly recovers Sanity Point corresponding to the context." What exactly does "corresponding to the context" mean here?

Also, I assume you can't go below 0 Sanity Points, but even so, starting with 1d4+Wis modifier where seeing corpses costs 2 points on a failed Wis DC 12 roll -- that feels like a recipe for everyone to faint in their first few rooms of a dungeon, lol.

The "context" allows the GM to introduce varying scales of stressful or horrifying situations.

Here is an example featuring the phobia "Hemophobia":

  • Your character is deeply injured and loses a lot of blood (1 Sanity Point).
  • Your character is forced to be part of an ancient blood ritual (3 Sanity Points).

Regarding the number of Sanity Points, it may be necessary to playtest the rules in order to fine-tune the values. Perhaps Sanity Points should scale with the character's level. I hope these explanations help you.
