Very glad we didn't get a Secret of NIHM reference once the captain's name was mentioned, otherwise agree it was an original take on the rats as virtuous protagonists and glimpses of how they see enemies or allies, though the thematic use might have been more 'things just keep getting worse' versus difficult choices :)
