Great job! The hue-shift mechanic is really cool, I don't think I've seen anything like it before.
Things I liked:
- The main color changing mechanic was fantastic, and hiding from enemies by swapping colors intelligently was very gratifying. Definitely a unique concept. Color changing mechanics have definitely been done before, but I haven't seen it done like this!
- The music was perfect. Definitely very unnerving. I really liked the one part where the music intensifies (towards the end when a ton of enemies chase you and tons of turrets fire bullets at you). I also liked the remix of the music in the second ending!
Things that could benefit from change
- As much as I loved the color change mechanic, it felt like the game only used it about half the time. The other half, it felt like I was just mashing in a direction over black terrain running from bullets. I think the core mechanic is a little underutilized, I was expecting some time-sensitive puzzles/challenges where you had to plan your hue shifts ahead of time.
- This is mostly just because I'm bad, but it felt difficult to tell which hue I was supposed to shift to. I'd often faceplant into a block of color, and then immediately turn into the color that I was on and be stuck again. Again, this is due to my own lack of skill, but maybe placing colors in a staggered fashion (such that adjacent colors didn't have close values) could make for some really satisfying segments where you just smoothly color shift across an area.
- Being required to mash in some sections was a little tough. I don't have a great solution for this, but it was a bit of a physical pain for me haha.
Great work overall! I liked the replay value of it as well. Getting the final ending and hearing that sick music track at the end was great.
