could your movement be bound to fps? I have a 145hz monitor. Physics are generally calculated on each frame, so if you move the character 1 meter every frame, some people could move 240 meters per second and others 60. Usually to circumvent this people use the amount of time since the last frame.

Mine is 120hz and I was going pretty fast too (though not quite enough to fly off the map) so this may be the case.
