I didn't manage to catch a single fish, but so is my real life fishing experience :-p
I think that the gameplay is quite good for the limited resolution.
In hindsight, I wish I added a bit more in-game help as the indicators are a bit obscure.. but I guess that's the challenge with a limited resolution!
