I would normally inclined to show sympathy, but my response after reading his latest cool story is...

This just sits him up for another year long charade of excuses as each month we'll be up to date on the varying levels of blindness as he goes through varying levels of blindness, and then what glasses he wears and what kind of dog he gets, or what kind of cane he gets, and then whatever other health problem he gets once he's exhausted those excuses.
