I like the look of the game. 2D platformers are tough to make, or at least it’s tough to make ones that feel like the classics we know and love. Overall, it functions well. Jumping and movement feels pretty good, and I was surprised to see the drag when pressing near a wall. I would recommend that maybe you could implement jumping off the wall if you’re dragging along it; seems more catlike and would make getting out of trouble easier. Speaking of trouble, I did want to mention that I think trying to limit the amount of jumps the player can’t calculate should be kept to a minimum, and possibly for later levels. For example, the big area with coins in the first level…it’s impossible to tell where my character will land, so maybe some coin “hints” like you do later in the level would be good there.

EDIT: my bad for the comment spam. itch kept asking if I wanted to leave the site, and I suppose it added the comment anyways!

Thanks for the feedback! You actually can wall jump in the game! The second level actually has an area where you have to figure out the wall jump mechanic in order to move forward. I have tried putting coin hints in areas that are safe to land, but I could add more if people are struggling of where to land.

Went back and played more! I didn’t try jumping the other way on a wall, I should have! I guess I am used to modern mario 2D games where you can do that while holding towards the wall. It works great though! The game is pretty tough, which I like. I’ll come back and play some more tomorrow. I will say that sometimes I think I’m going to land fine but I (just barely) catch a corner of the terrain and end up falling. Are there any vertical levels later on? The wall jump works really well!

There aren't any vertical levels at the moment. I've tried to keep the level length and height the same for the time being, just because I'm not super great at level design. I might make some vertical levels in the future. If not in this game, then in a future game, or even a sequel.
