Interesting ideas and a lot of cool systems! It took me a while to figure out what to do, and I definitely dies a couple times before I realized it was linked to the freshwater meter. Reading the explanations on the game page definitely helped to understand the game more, but I think it would be best to use in-game UX and visual designs to give queues to the player for what they should be doing and what causes events to occur. But with some polish and iteration, I am sure this will turn out to be a delightful little game! Good work!
