Okay this one made me chuckle. You've got a great theme and stuck to it well, the visuals, sound and pickups all contribute to it. The controls felt good, very similar to the original mario's, and I felt the game had a good amount of challenge. Having the enemies patrol between potatoes was an odd one, as when you pick up a potato they keep on travelling horizontally off platforms.
I loved the fact that there were loads of little details that I didn't expect, such as the death sound being extended if you fall down a pit, the SCHOOL BUS (help us) and the burning American flags, to name a few. Also, I'm not sure if this was intentional, but on the second level the Soviet national anthem reaches it's peak around the same time the Soviet flag comes into view. Brought a tear to my eye.
Overall a great submission that I had a lot of fun with, well done!
