Game was interesting and is was fun. However there were a lot of bugs like getting stuck on the wall and the enemies moving in mid air if the item was collected.
a good attempt however the movemnt causes you to get stuck on blocks and enimies causing some interesting things however it wasw a good attempt at creating a game
Interesting concept. It plays quite decently, however you do seem to get stuck on obstacles and enemies, in the enemies case once you pull away you die. The hole part way through was hard to notice as well. All in all a decent platformer though.
Just a quick heads up, the timer goes into the negatives.
This one was funny, in a good way of course! The gameplay felt smooth and offered a decent amount of challenge, I also loved the sound design used here. Finally I would say that I had a lot of fun with this one although I did run into some jumping problems where the button wouldn't work... although this may just be me so as a whole well done.
Okay this one made me chuckle. You've got a great theme and stuck to it well, the visuals, sound and pickups all contribute to it. The controls felt good, very similar to the original mario's, and I felt the game had a good amount of challenge. Having the enemies patrol between potatoes was an odd one, as when you pick up a potato they keep on travelling horizontally off platforms.
I loved the fact that there were loads of little details that I didn't expect, such as the death sound being extended if you fall down a pit, the
SCHOOL BUS (help us) and the burning American flags, to name a few. Also, I'm not sure if this was intentional, but on the second level the Soviet national anthem reaches it's peak around the same time the Soviet flag comes into view. Brought a tear to my eye.Overall a great submission that I had a lot of fun with, well done!
I like the visual aspect of this game. Although when playing the game, it is quite slippery when walking around and jumping, and the enemies hitboxes could be a little jerky at times. Enemies would sometimes fly off of the platforms and get stuck which you wouldn’t want. I also found that double jumping on the second level of this game would just break the game and cause Mario to go under the floor. Overall, I’d say this is a good submission.
Ha! Love the title and theme. Very mario-esk. worked well also!
The music, sound effects and visuals worked well together.
I did find that if you ran and jumped into walls that you kinda stopped and got stuck and it would take a couple of seconds to unstick but other than that, good job!
Aha the communist theme for starters is great. The animation of the flag at the end of the level really helps keep the theme going. Really hits the brief in terms of a mario game - well done!!! :D
A submission that contains most of the key game mechanics for a platformer, interesting theme, and a relatively tight control scheme.
The double jumping's effectiveness is entirely dependant on when you press the jump key the second time, with late presses being almost useless. Enemies' pathway was dependant on objects which led to circumstances where enemies were levitating whilst gently falling to the ground. Hitboxes for the enemies were awkward and could have used some work. Overall, this game had everything there, but felt unpolished. A portion of your development time should have been focused on playtesting and ensuring that players get the experience that you intend. Finally, it was good that you referenced the 8-Bit Soviet Anthem video, but is that really open license. You really need to be careful with using other people's work, some people wouldn't allow you to use them without permission or without the correct license.
Overall, this submission meets the requirements and is perfectly acceptable for the timeframe it was made in, but dedicate time to polishing and bugtesting in the future. What have you learned about making games in a team that you could take onto future projects?
This is one of the few platformers from this week that felt the most similar to the traditional moveset of a platformer. The movement was snappy and the jumping felt natural, what more could you ask for? The art style was simple, with perhaps not the strongest consistence or coherence, but it gave that sense of retro games that many platformers rely on. There were some bugs, such as enemies floating in mid-air, slowly falling to the ground, and double-tapping the jump button could make the player super jump. Yet overall, a pretty good game that I enjoyed playing.
Found Communist Mario to be quite slippery when walking around and jumping, and the enemies hitboxes could be a little clunky at times but overall enjoyable. Enemies would sometimes fly off of the platforms and get stuck and found that double jumping on the second level would break the game and cause Mario to clip under the floor
Ahh the smell of Communism in the morning. I love the concept and implementation of this idea, this game was verry enjoyable to play and I kept finding myself playing this game again and again. The art style and music stay true to the retro feeling of the original Mario game. The overall gameplay was fun and enjoyable "crushing the capitalists dogs!" Overall a great game. One critique though, if its a glitch, but some enemies seem to take flight and get stuck on the platforms, maybe this is western spy technology?
The game made me smile, loved the concept idea for this and how you were able to edit Mario's clothes, you clearly said at the start screen on the instructions and what the task was to do which is always useful to know within the game and having the potatoes instead of coins, one thing I did notice when playing that there were some bugs within the enemies such as hovering past their platform especially within the first level and not dying from being too close on the second, but the game still worked and I liked that you managed tog et more than one level within this, A great game overall and made me want to pay longer to try and get past the levels with music making your game stand out as well with its retro type feel. Overall great game so well done!
Communism! The best way of life we could have, right? Yet the flawed ways of democracy and capitalism has controlled most countries for years. Now is the time for the holy motherland to stand. As Mario's Russian lookalike you shall invade the USA and topple down capitalism in an epic platformer to spread the good of communism and save the world! Now go Forward Comrade, Not One Step Back!
