Thank you for the feedback! The graphics depend on a cell shader, something similar to the one shown in this video

The itch.io page contains instructions for playing the game, but the game jam release is very difficult due to a low amount of books, so you end up freezing very quickly even if you're good at the game and know what you're doing.

Thank you for the feedback! The game jam release was pretty unclear - there's not a lot of content so there are very few books to burn, and we didn't have the time to make the books stand out more in the shelves.

Thank you!

Thanks for the feedback - glad you liked it!

Our game was admittedly a bit ambitious for a two-day game jam. We ran out of time to add the books we made to the game, so the amount of burnable items is a lot lower than we anticipated - as a result, it's impossible to stay alive for long. We may make a content patch when the game jam is over to resolve this, as we just need to add more titles (they're randomly spread through the bookshelves anyway).

That's also why we had no tutorial - we would have loved to introduce the mechanics by starting the player off with the first journal entry being read and subsequently tossed in the fire (or something similar!). Trust me, the fact the balancing even works somewhat in the beginning of the game is pure coincidence ;).

The game looks very ambitious! You have a lot in there (even though only half of it works ;) )! I'd definitely recommend focusing on some core parts of your game before going this wide in a game jam.. two days isn't much. Hope you will take the time to tie your mechanics together after the jam!

Very cute and consistent art, seems like a good concept too. The execution of the fights isn't great though - it's very unclear what's happening and I seem to just sacrifice a flat amount of health per battle (so I always win? I don't understand the choices I get).

P.S. - Since your game is made in Unity, making an in-browser build for itch.io is trivial - it makes it a lot easier for people to check out a small game (since it requires no download and unzipping!).

Hilarious little concept - it sadly doesn't really work past a few rooms in (from what I can tell). It's great that you put in a bunch of interfaces - stability might have been a better thing to go for though. Lots of good effort on audio too.

Thank you - I'm glad the instructions helped.

Thank you! Honestly, it only really came together visually in the last hour of the game jam, so we are all very happy with the look too!

I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong - I can't seem to pick up gold (you interact, right?) nor kill enemies. I admittedly suck at controlling this character.

The game is super visually interesting for a 2-day game. I think you picked a really solid art style to make it work in the time you had.

I think it would be easier for me to play this game if you zoomed in the camera a bit (so you can better tell what's going on) and used some more visuals (and audio) for feedback.

Thank you - that fixes it (though not consistently..). I was trying fullscreen earlier, and the inconsistency + fullscreen not working + arrow keys being on the second layer (fn+IJKL) on my keyboard led me to think it didn't work in general.

I sadly can't play in browser, because my arrow keys scroll the page.
