It's actually a Godot project and Itch is a little weird sometimes with Godot. The game is supposed to stay inside the window on the page at a fixed resolution. If the game pops out to a different window or changes size that's Itch being weird and it causes the bug you're describing with the gray background.

Unfortunately there's an issue with certain browsers that causes the game to pop out into a window and break the size the game was designed to render at, which causes the pop-in of the background that you're describing.

The crazy taxi inspiration seems obvious here, good job on recreating the basic game loop from that game. The low poly psx art-style is also very nice.
Unfortunately controls are a little rough and this game doesn't quite have the frantic energy of its inspiration.

Not much actual gameplay here.
Collisions also need some work, the player shouldn't be able to walk off screen or through objects and other characters.
Good job getting something together for the jam though.

I have a version of this available on the UE Marketplace:

https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/en-US/product/enhanced-movement-game-te...

The big difference is that the SuperGrid assets are not included.

I've just released my latest game development project here on Itch.

It's an inventory and equipment system designed to work like many classic RPG systems of the past.
Of particular note is the 2d Paperdoll style of showing the player's equipment.

You can find it here: https://amstrad.itch.io/crpg-paperdoll-inventory

Here is a demonstration video:

I've just published the project files for my Retro/Boomer style FPS kit for use in Unreal Engine 4 and 5.

This kit provides a quick-start to creating your own FPS in the style of classic early 3d FPS games like Unreal or Quake.

Check it out here: https://amstrad.itch.io/boomer-shooter-fps-kit

I imagine it's way beyond the scope of this project. But making these models drivable would be a heck of a lot of fun!
