hey, thanks for the review.

+ I had some cool plans for the music. To play it with the same BPM as the game's pulse . To play some traditional Persian music (I'm a music composer btw at Spotify etc) ... But then suddenly I was addicted to The Witcher 1 , which stole me a lot of time haha

+ The cube transportation is done very simply by checking the nearest Wall point of the opposite wall. I'll make sure to upload the source code. Generally the algorithm is simple, but it could've been hell if I used the wrong polymorphism setup... (Like treating walls as Transform or GameObject or not having a Left Right Up Down enum etc)

Thanks again!

Hey again. reading back what I commented, I'm changing a few things :

+ Gameplay: you're right, the time was short and you were focusing on some other aspects. which, after playing with that in mind, I actually enjoyed it a lot more than the last time :

+ Theme/Topic: hmm, despite what I told earlier, I now think this is actually the best game in this regards. great work :D!

>There was no point and new creativity in this game because I had made it just in 4 days
That part I have to disagree tho. creativity is actually the key in game jams. it's hard to come up with good graphics or good codes in such short time, but a new and fun game design doesn't take much time; you just have to take the time and the skillsets in consideration ;)

And sorry for asking if it was for this jam❤️ the game was great!

Hey. I loved the game! the difficulty was the best in this jam! and it lasted some 20 minutes for me to beat the game. the design was very well fine tuned and the visual effects were just enough. tho I couldn't guess what was it's relation to Culture Theme, but it was a very fun game to play! (SPOILER ALLERT: specially the ending :P )

!!I'm voting based on the jam scale, so I may come back and forth and teak some votes ( only to increase tho )!!

Gameplay: PERFECT

Theme/Topic: I think it didn't quite relate to any culture I know, but then who knows about the culture of the dead, right? :)

Innovation: The joking of it was itself enough for the Innovation :D the only problem I could see is that the game wasn't all new; and in fact this genre is used many times. imagine 3 out of 5 games here is a platformer. And since many if us have probably played some very crazy platformers, it'd be hard to see something brand new in a platformer genre, so it's understandable. i'm giving 4 out of 5

Graphics: The stickMan style was great! the particles were double-awesome!! I'm giving 3, for the visual effects are great but the art lacked complicity. and I don't mean more colors or whatnot, I mean complicity in decisions of the asset arts. for example I think it'd be great to have some sort of global reddening gradient connected to the timer in the last chapter, or some bloom in general

Music/SFX: well, no music. but the sfx gets all the stars I can give to sfx. it's a 2 stars. tho as I wrote the last sentence, I realize maybe the silence was actually not that bad. so I'm giving 3 stars now

Polish: Perfecto!

HEY! so, let me start from the question of "Is this really made during THIS jam?" because it looked like it was submitted to a lot of other jams too :(     ... anyways. the idea was a bit old, I think you can agree that we have too much platformers and to stand out you'd have to do some serious game design, which I didn't notice in this game. the art was good and Paint-ish, and I liked the idea of protecting fire against water!

!!I'm voting based on the jam scale, so I may come back and forth and teak some votes ( only to increase tho )!!

Gameplay: just... You could've done a lot more in terms of gameplay. the game didn't grab me from hitting the exit button, you know. there should be a purpose for playing. some coins, points, a story or something else; there wasn't :( at least not anything that I could see

Theme/Topic: I don't think I could detect what culture you chose, because I couldn't see any. If there was tho, please do tell! I just think maybe I missed that?

Innovation: umm, you know, it's a platformer. I would add some new additions to the gameplay to stand out. maybe limit the chest fires and use the remaining fires to do a super jump? or maybe add a forward-jump like in Celeste? or, umm, something to run from? etc.

Graphics: the pixel art itself was fine, but I think you'd need to add some additional effects; and I would really suggest that the pixel arts were more pixely; you know; like more smooth. it was very sharp and looked straight out of mspaint. I love paint tho :D

Music/SFX: Was the starting music original? it was a good idea if it was original. and i wish you implemented some sfx too. tho the time was nigh

Polish: it had some work to do, i think you can agree that the jumping/distance wasn't refined very well

(1 edit)

Hey. the game was awesome! it was a good 3-4 minutes experience. I only with you had made it a little longer than that, but I know it'd be very hard to do so

!!I'm voting based on the jam scale, so I may come back and forth and teak some votes ( only to increase tho )!!

Gameplay: It was the great!

Theme/Topic: wow you killed it. I really liked the music and art style going with the theme. the only problem I could say is that the ghost story didn't feel like Mexican so much. if im mistaken and thats part of the culture please correct me

Innovation: umm, the game wasn't really adding new depths to the good-old platformer vibe. it was fun, but it wasn't new in that regard

Graphics: awesome! I'd definitely work a bit more on the effects tho. particle effects and other types visual effects. but great job. it was really awesome!

Music/SFX: I liked the original music; however it wasn't an absolute thumbs up from me. it had Mexican vibe and the ghost feeling successfully, but then it kinda fixed them up with some non-Mexican sounds that also didn't feel like a ghost vibe either in the end. but all in all, music gets all the votes I can give :D but I didn't notice any sfx in place

Polish: the game wasn't exactly polished very well. the colliders felt very sharp and ruthless, while the level design was very easy and straight forward. it felt like you wanted to make the distances right for jumpings, and kinda skipped the collider polishing. tho that would take a lot of time and it's understandable; but , well, you chose the game, you chose a HARD game to make :)

Oh you're lucky you lost at 103. If you go on for some 150 or so you'll start to get headache :( I think it's the lighting and the bloom that causes it... try not to proceed further than 100 points.

+ I talked about the music in the other comment. I have a very disappointing excuse

Hey. thanks for the comment.

I had actually planned on adding some really crazy Persian music to rhythm with the game pulse haha. did you notice the game pulse? I programmed it to pulse in 120 BPM and if you're a musician you'd know what that means :) but then I was engaged playing The Witcher 1 for 2-3 days straight which, well, umm, took that idea away from happening. So instead you can listen to a 120/90/60 BPM music while playing for now 😅

Everything was perfectly put in place like a master of art in front of a blank canva - oh waittaminute, it was me!

Hey! I played the game and first thing that got my attention was the music. it was so soothing and matched the art-style so well. And opposite of ManameisJeffie, I very much liked the theme-changing idea :D  great job! And my best record was 2860

Here are in depth info of my votings:

!!I'm voting based on the jam scale, so I may come back and forth and teak some votes ( only to increase tho )!!

+ Gameplay: it couldn't keep me playing for long; I can't say I really liked the gameplay idea so much unfortunately. but I sure can say it was fun while it lasted :D
I'll try it again to beat my best record after I played other games in the jam, and then maybe I changed my mind!

+ Theme/Topic: ummm, When dealing with "Culture", I think it's expected to see some cultural assets that are related to gameplay, rather than using them only for the art-style. I failed at that too ( failed much worse to be exact ). If I had a 2nd chance I'd put the cultural focus more on the gameplay rather than just art

Innovation: The idea wasn't very new, you know. the theme changing was exceptional tho, it seemed new to me and I really liked it :D

Graphics: Oh the graphics were polished for sure! but then since we also have a voting for polish separately, I'm voting the graphics based on the level of quality, without polishing in mind...
So, the graphics and the sfx/music matched very well and in my opinion that's the strongest point for this game. well done my friend! tho to be honest I think the graphics lacked a lot of particles ... I'm giving 3 stars, which is only 2 stars short and that's only because of the lack of visual effects. the 3 full stars are for the art , which was great. I'd definitely add some visual effects. but again, I may change my mind after I played other games, because if none focused on visual effects then you'll get 5 stars for graphics from me

Music/SFX: Just let me say that I was a freelancing music composer and as a composer I loved how much your music teamed up with your art assets to fulfill the theming! I'd give it 10 stars if it was possible.
Oh and you can find my musics at.... joking :p

Polish: the game was very well polished! you did a great job at that, and that's the second string point of this game in my opinion
