Thank you! I'm glad you found it interesting. I will continue the story on my own, though writing took longer than I expected.

This was a cute game! It was cool how there were two endings and the gameplay changed a little based on the outfit. I liked how unique this game was: it feels interactive and it makes you want to see both endings. It's different from the usual fighting game I would expect from Gamemaker. I love the art and the parents, I laughed when I read "babykins"!

I like the classic platformer feel. It plays really smoothly, and the details like the way the screen shakes when you break the bubble make it feel like a polished game. It's cool how each bird's power is suited to the level.

I like what you've done, the walking animation looks smooth and I like the character. He reminds me of futurama style a bit.

Submitted a very unfinished game here. It doesn't even have a title screen because I forgot I needed one! It is very short, and you can reach one bad ending so far if you make a wrong choice. The finished game will be at least 30 minutes long and have 3 endings; one is a "good" ending where you can free Gem (the blue girl above) from her little prison. You would have to make the correct choices to lead to the good end.

Things I completed or learned:

  • Basic Ren'py programming: dialogue, menu choices, audio playback, python variables and operators
  • A few sprites with different expressions
  • I got a little better at drawing in Clip Studio

Things I still need to do: 

  • More facial expressions
  • Backgrounds
  • A title card lol
  • the entire script, including a good and neutral ending, and bad endings that can occur throughout the game
  • Make my own GUI instead of using someone else's

There's 1 cg sketch so far.  I don't like uploading unfinished art but I should show what I'm making progress in.


Thank you!! The GUI is actually from an asset pack I downloaded on itch.io. I plan on finishing the game, but when I realized how long it would take to finishing writing the script(writing takes a long time), I wanted to focus on the art, learning programming, and overall making a semi-polished demo that was playable. I used Ren'py, which is specialized for visual novels and its really simple to make a speaker character appear in the text box. It might be a bit harder in Gamemaker.

What you completed looks pretty cool and I love your satyr girl! Yeah the game jam taught me not to underestimate game development as well.

I finally figured out how to display the protagonist on the side of the text box. This is a little easier since I only have to draw her face, not her whole body. The instructions to do so was in "side images" in the Ren'py documentation-I don't know why it was so hard for me to find it. I also edited the GUI a little so the text fits next to her face, drew more expressions and one bg.


Looks really nice, especially the pixel art.

I suppose I should start my first devlog since I've been working on it for a few days. My game is a short visual novel about a thief girl who needs to make a choice: whether or not to steal something that would harm someone else. That something also happens to be a living being, which complicates things. The player will be able to make choices leading to you stealing(and getting rich), or not stealing. My goal is to have the duration be around 30 minutes.

I'm programming in Ren'py (while learning how to use it), and drawing the art myself. The background looks silly now (since the game takes place underground) but I wanted to see how they looked in a scene. I need to resize both characters and edit them so that the art style looks similar. 

So far, I learned (in Ren'py) basic dialogue, how to make menu choices, and how labels and jumping work. I also made a few different facial expressions for Gem (the blue girl on the right).

The GUI is Lunar Magic by Jaime Scribbles Games (the bg is also part of the GUI package).
