Great job on this! Even if it may have broken a rule, this still feels like the perfect clean finish to Rural Blackout. I love how unapologetically cheesy the TV segments are too lol, feels very campy, and the new intruder model is great. Even though my version didn't make it to the end I'm pretty happy with this one being the final! (Btw I wanted to say I like how buggy the flesh walls level is, it adds to the reality-void atmosphere and seems intentional so I'd claim it as a feature).
Throughout this Game Jam there were a ton of cool games and versions of games that sadly could not make it to the end, although the ones that did were all great and definitely deserved it. While that is the spirit of a game development competition, there were still plenty that had a lot of effort/heart put into them. Here you can post your games (or any you liked) that didn't make it but you think should be acknowledged. I'll start it off with the one I worked on:
I'm pretty sure https://keveatscheese.itch.io/rural-blackout-day-3 still needs a Day 4 dev, I was the Day 2 dev for it. Since it's a no communication challenge I can't say anything about it, but I'm pretty sure any fixes/adjustments it could potentially need would only take an hour or two to get done, even with very basic Unity knowledge. Also keeping two branches of Rural Blackout going all the way to Day 6 would be awesome to see at the end!
I was the Day 2 dev instead of the Day 3, but if anyone wants to pick up https://keveatscheese.itch.io/rural-blackout-day-3 it probably wouldn't take much time to make any fixes (that I am contractually banned from commenting about per rule 2 of the Jam) needed, maybe only an hour or two to clean it up. Once cleaned up I think this one could end really great, especially by day 6!
Thanks, I spent most of the time trying to perfectly implement that since I knew it was the star of my Day 2 version and I think it worked out pretty well! Great job btw on your Day 1 version, out of every game in the Game Jam for Day 1 I'm pretty sure yours was the best (and I'm a huge sucker for PSX-style games).
Those are pretty good suggestions, I was actually thinking about a lot of those when I was working on it but just couldn't get them all in the 20 hours. The room identification and cheesing methods I tried to counter with the furniture, brownout mechanic and flashlight and I think solved it pretty well. I was thinking about trying to find an 096 model I could freely repurpose to sculpt and recolor since the body proportions are pretty unnerving, but I didn't have the time for it. The ending I admittingly didn't see until halfway through the Game Jam, but it could be more satisfying (like for example if a car outside the house starts up and drives over the camera perspective, switching to the menu once the wheel goes over in a kind of actiony way). Thanks for all the consideration though!
Hey yall, I don't know of anyone planning to work on my Day 2 rendition of Rural Blackout so if anyone is interested here's the link: https://conqueringruler.itch.io/rural-blackout-day-2
Plenty more info is in the description of the game :)
RURAL BLACKOUT - Day 2: https://conqueringruler.itch.io/rural-blackout-day-2. I know there's already another Day 2 version of this that someone is planning to continue working on, but given the pretty different approaches we took it would be great to see how they continue to evolve.
This is my Day 2 game: https://itch.io/jam/day-2/rate/2190080. It's a survival horror game where a humanoid creature tries to break into your house during a power-outage, who you have to fend off with the lights powered by your generator. I added a few new mechanics and filled the house with decorations and furniture, which at least to me really adds to the atmosphere of the Day 1 project.
For my first Game Jam I'm pretty proud of how my additions to this turned out! While I didn't do nearly as much as the Day 1 people (big props to them), I still managed to add a few well-refined features in the short time frame and I'm pretty confident I made the game a lot better. I hope you all like it!
