A great start here for sure! Awesome atmosphere in the textures, colors, music, everything really! I loved how a lot of the level is based on that saturated green and then you have special objects like the red door to really pop out with contrast. Intentional or not, the layout of the house also adds to the uneasiness. Things are weirdly spaced out (living room, hallways to basement door) or tightly contained (bedroom) which is subtly uncomfortable (to me at least). I also liked the car just sitting in a normal room. I'm assuming you ran out of time to make a garage but I like the fact that it's just sitting on the ground floor closed off. Lot of potential to make something surreal and truly scary, I hope you continue working on this!
I love the concept, I think there's a lot of potential to stretch this out into multiple nights (introducing new monsters/mechanics and what not). It's pretty difficult right at the start (looking at the journal helped a lot) but I'm glad you added unique sounds for each monster so the player can rely on audio cues. I especially liked the closet monster design. Great work!
Try downloading this: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=35 That should fix it, let me know if it doesn't!
This is a really cool and interesting idea! I can't recall seeing another game that looks into what happens to shelved projects. I think you should flesh this out as a full title and go further, maybe giving the conversations between the game updates game play as well as text. I would however cut back some of the text after the branching narrative update, it bogged down the experience a little bit because the game is repetitive in nature. Other than that, nice entry!
I just released my first entirely solo effort, Sinew, today. It's a surrealist narrative game that deals with difficult topics through strange images and settings. The game is completely free and the link is here. You can also find the soundtrack here, which was composed and partially performed by me. Any and all feedback, questions, and comments are welcome, thanks for reading and playing!
