> "He owes you nothing and can work at whatever pace he wants."

ok, sure, but you can't provide zero updates and expect people to stay interested. He doesn' owe us updates but we also don't owe him anything either. If this game ever gets released, almost nobody is going to know about it or play it. If it is a paid game, that is even more so. That is how demand works. Out of sight, out of mind. This game was all over the place when the demo was released. How many people even remember this now, 12 years later, besides his diehard fans? Even Yandere Dev did a better job of keeping his fans updated, and generating interest.

> "This wasn't made for you"

it absolutely was. This kind of game is right up my alley and I want to see more of it. I just think taking 12 years to make a game is an absolutely ridiculous time span. A "forever project" is exactly what it sounds like. It is a project that gets started, but then never gets finished even though the promise to finish is always there. Spend any time in software development or game development, and it will happen to you too. its a really common thing to happen.

> You are such a weirdo making random assumptions about intent and process

I never made assumptions about his intent. I have been doing software engineering for 4 years now since I graduated college, and I see this kind of thing happen all the time. If you don't have a set schedule and proper project management with defined goals, the piece of software will never be finished.

If anything you are making assumptions of my intent, which is fairly ironic.

Just finished this game. Excellent work! Most of the time I couldn't even tell that it was a DOOM mod. Lots of little tricks that kept the world seamless.

Every bullet being a projectile instead of hitscan so that Dooms weird aiming system doesn't interfere, the entire world being contained in one map so that end level screens don't interfere, etc.

I am genuinely impressed by the ingenuity of this mod, and I also really loved the lore of the game.

Think of it from our perspective: unless you follow his streams, there has been no progress update. No new screenshots in years, the website is down, no talk online anywhere except for Twitch which you have to be watching at exactly the right time to hear any news, etc.

I am sure this guy is a good programmer, but because this demo came out twelve years ago I am not hopeful that it will *actually* be released. It seems more like his "forever project." A white whale that will never be caught.

Sometimes things like this happen. Someone starts a project and works on it for years without ever finishing it, trying to reach perfection. It's always sad when this happens, but it's a more common story than not.

Looks like it is looking for FosterPlatform.so but can't find it. Is it anywhere else in the package? Might have been put in the wrong place.

Keep in mind you will have to use the Linux version as the Windows version requires Proton, but once you got the Linux version up and running it is great! The controller maps excellently to the Pico-8 buttons, and Pico-8 games feel like they were *designed* to be played on-the-go. Now, the programming aspect ain't great without a keyboard plugged into the dock. The Steam Deck keyboard covers up half the screen so it doesn't work that great with it. But for solely playing games, its the best way to experience the games! 10/10 highly recommended experience

>The developers most certainly aren't by any means entitled to make money from PICO-8;

And you aren't entitled to get stuff for free. Its their work and they should be paid for it. I agree in that I wish it was open source, but its unbelievably difficult to make money on an open source project. Very few projects succeed, and only if they become mainstream. Even then its not guaranteed...look at the financials of GNOME and KDE.

Agreed. While it does cost money, they are entitled to the money they get for the work they put into it. I wish it was Open Source because I stand for libre software, but I get why it isn't.  Its really hard to make money with open source...KDE and GNOME, the two most prolific open source development companies(even moreso than the Linux Foundation) barely get any money from their endeavors at all. To call them prolific is an understatement...sometimes I check the licenses of proprietary software for Windows and most of the time I find KDE or GNOME-based software somewhere in it.

I got PICO-8 in a bundle from 2020 and only recently realized I had it, but I was planning on buying it before I saw it in my library anyway. I might throw them money to help them out despite getting it in the bundle because man...Im loving this thing.

Love it, thought ESDF controls are a weird choice. Any chance we could get the classic WASD implemented as a choice?

Otherwise, I love the game and will be playing more of it

*WINE enters the chat*

This game was a lot of fun! It is like playing in an ENA episode

I thought it was fun.

I should also mention that it was sometimes hard to see the doors during later portions of the game.

Still waiting for the full game! Update soon, perhaps?

Enjoyed the game. Ran across a few bugs though. The lamp I was carrying around kind of disappeared, and every time I tried to skip through the credits it would restart the credits sequence. Not sure if intentional, but it led me to press the windows button on my keyboard and exit out of the game that way.

There is nothing wrong with it. Kids don't really know what love actually is, so they say dumb things like that. Once when my mom was watching a VHS of Elvis music, I was 5 years old, and she said she loved him. My child brain thought she meant she wanted to marry him.

I can imagine it is a similarly innocent "love."
