Thanks for the heads up. I'm not sure what you mean by red player box... But I have an idea to test that may help me understand what's wrong.
The new version is coming along well. I've simplified the menu system in the next version making it faster to get to gameplay and level editing. I'm currently changing the player select screen to work differently so players can join / exit an active adventure at anytime during gameplay.
The pause menu in game also allows you to exit the adventure.
After that I want to add at least one default campaign that will come with the game in the experimental version. ( That way players don't have to build a campaign in order to play with it )
Hope to have a new version released soon! :)
On the non-experimental version you will need to exclusively use the mouse to navigate the menu system. The new version is designed to use mouse or controller. When navigating the menu in the experimental version is the nagivation red for the most part? I've ran into some issues if you try to do most of the navigation with players 2 (blue) ,3 (green), and 4(yellow). ( One of the things I was going to fix before this release but I wanted people to be able to play because of the cronavirus. )
Oh I forgot to mention that the experimental build doesn't have any built in levels or campaigns... So you have to build a campaign and level to try it out.
Also thanks for your input. I'll work on fixing some of this tonight if I get a chance.
Cool! I look forward to the D-Pad support. I love these kinds of game played with the d-pad.
"The only thing that needs keyboard is when you write the name." That was the only part where I needed a keyboard. I just think it would be cool like in the zelda games where you have all the letters on screen and you select them with the controller to put in your name.
Review for v0.1 of the game. I really wish I could use the d-pad to play. I liked your candle boss. From a level design perspective I think the ordering of what badguys you face in the dungeon could be improved. Finding rats first before running into lava dropping badguys because the rats are easier to defeat. The static lava is treated more like falling down a hole instead of lava. I wasn't sure what the green light circles did. I liked the secret foreshadowing you did. Seeing chests you can't get yet is always exciting. Money has no use in this version - would be great to see coin given a purpose. The name select screen should be controller based as the rest of your game is. What you have done with the lighting is fun. I'd say great work and I look forward to seeing what comes in your next version!
Update: My tool isn't ready. (Even though I made tons of progress on it.) It really needs Task Assignment and Task dependency working before it is ready for use. We will see how it goes but I'd like to work on it even more during the Jam and maybe we can use it 1/2 through the production or something. We will see. Anyways can't wait to meet the team tonight. :)
I've been developing some project management software to use in personal game development. (It's a Task Management Tool like Trello) If I get it done in time I'd like to give it a test run in a production environment. I need a team to try it out though. So let's form a team!
I'd like to be the Product Owner / Project Manager / Team Captain of a team (Whatever you want to call it.). This being said I don't want to be the idea guy for the project. ( I'd rather hear what you guys want to make and help you reach that goal ) I really want the team to have at least 1 programmer, 1 artist, 1 animator, 1 designer, and 1 audio dev ( 6 total including me ) but the more the merrier. My goal will be simple: To manage project scope, manage resources (especially time) and to ensure we get the game finished and working well on time.
I also have skills with programming, pixel art, and audio so I can help fill in gaps if needed but I really want the project management experience and to see if my project management tool I'm building is effective. It will be my first time being the full on said Manager of a project so I hope it will be a learning experience for me.
Please comment and email me at milkchugg (at) gmail.com if you want to join my team,
Thanks,
Michael Chugg
Edit: Even if I don't finish the tool I would still want to manage a project. So I'll be there whether or not my tool is.
