This is awesome... and in Javascript, who knew! I didn't know it was so good for making games. The parallax on the stars is really nice.

Second week update!

Hmm, life has caught up to me a little bit, but I have been able to create my tileset and most of my character animation for the chick. Clearly this will stretch beyond the end of this game jam, but I'm having fun with it so that's ok. I decided to shift away from pixel art because that takes much longer in my opinion. Here's part of my world with the tileset on:

And my little chick animation, yet to be colored:

That's all for now as I continue to try my best to work on my assets! I want to create an additional tileset for the background, and some environmental art to make the world a bit livelier.

Thank you! That sounds like a good idea, I'll see if I can do that after my next update.

Ok, 2 days into my project, some progress but the exciting stuff is yet to come! It's mostly just been me following tutorials. I have a little simplistic world with a box pheonix who can move around and jump, and a flying box enemy that will pathfind towards the player using an A* library. My next steps are to make the enemy do divebombs to be a little more exciting, and to draw and set up a tilemap for the world! Then comes health stat logic.

Starting a bit late, but would like to join and create a full, if small, game!

Going with the theme of cycle, my game will be about a phoenix that goes from chick, to fletching, to full pheonix, before returning to ashes and then a chick again. I would like to have some way for the stats of the phoenix to become slightly better with each incarnation until it can beat some sort of boss. How much I am able to complete in the remaining time depends on my work ethic, I may have to scale back, but this is my plan so far!

I will be working on Unity 2D, and making my own pixel art. Music, we'll see, not my forte haha.

Hey, good luck! You know, being 18,  you're not actually late getting into game dev at all. Plenty of very successful developers started much later. (I mean, I'm 23 and haven't finished a proper project yet). Don't be hard on yourself and I hope you learn a lot in the game jam!

1. Hi there, better late than never! My name is Greta and I'm a recent comp sci graduate.

2. No, I haven't. This is my first game jam!

3.  I really love grand strategy games like Civilization, or strategy rpg like Fire Emblem.  I've made my attempts with grand strategy and only got as far as generating random maps. It's daunting!

4. Some, but definitely limited. Beyond simple stuff made with the program Alice when I was younger, I've done a hackathon focused on game dev with friends, a year-long school project to mixed results, and a little phone game with a friend as a summer project which we never released. So I'm hoping to learn more! All the previous were done in Unity so that's what I will be using.

5. Tell us about something you're passionate about!

Aside from games, I really love birds and birding. My dream job would be contributing to bird conservation with my training in computer science.

6. What are your goals for this game jam?

Most of the games I've worked on have been pretty static, I would like to be able to program in some randomness and enemy AI if possible. I think it would be really interesting to learn. I also really like art so I'd like to have fun learning to make some cool-looking sprites (2D games for life!).
