Thank you!
I've been improving a lot of the underlying structure over the last month or so, and laying out an actual narrative and quest system. I have a story I want to tell, but I needed to ensure I had a medium worth telling it on first, so I am always appreciative of feedback like this! (and any feedback for that matter) I hope to be releasing something new very soon. Thanks for trying it out though!
Okay, so I've spent a while reading about this. Windows has no understanding of something called "executable bits", but this is something both Linux and MacOS use. It is impossible to add this on windows. So, I needed to emulate either a MacOS or Linux Terminal to add these executable bits.
As far as I know, there is no reliable Mac terminal emulator for windows, so I used Linux. Anyway, I jumped through a lot of hoops, and I feel like it may have just completely broke the build, but I did put a new one up; hopefully this works.
Please let me know, so I can try again if it's still not right
Hi! I'm sorry you're having issues trying to get this to run. Unfortunately, I don't have access to a Mac to test any of the builds, so I'm not aware of anything I can do or not do to package it differently.
I could be wrong, but after poking around a bit, it seems this is a Big Sur problem, and not something I can fix on my end. Someone said this worked for them:
open terminal.
enter sudo chmod -R 777
then drag and drop the application you are trying to open.
click enter
to be in the terminal like this : sudo chmod -R 777 app-path
then enter your password
Try that for me, and if it doesn't work I'll read into it more to see if there is something I can do differently. I appreciate you reaching out with the issue nonetheless, because if it's something I need to fix, I would have never known.
Thank you for all the feedback! You've definitely given me a lot to work with, and I see myself going back to this video often as I tweak the game in future builds.
(I haven't figured out why yet, but some computers don't seem to like the fire shader and it gets all green and weird, so that's something I'll be addressing soon)
Hello everyone, I'm excited to announce an early access demo for what I've been working on the past few months!
The Heart's Game
The Hearts Game is a physics based 3D puzzle-platformer about the Heart's journey through grief. Collect Pictures, obtain special abilities, and solve puzzles as you journey through a metaphorical world with a cast of odd characters.

I would love for you to try the demo. It should take around 30 minutes to complete. If you enjoy it, follow along with the devlog. I'm actively developing, and looking for any and all feedback from the community!

Thank you so much for all the feedback! I'm really glad you enjoyed it!
As far as the camera goes, was there anything specific you found odd, or it just felt "off" in some way? If you can give me an example, that would work wonders to help me improve the game in future builds. Regardless, thank you for playing! I greatly appreciate it.

Hi! Its unbelievably useful for me to watch gameplay and hear feedback, so thank you so much for doing that.
Thank you for the compliment as well, that means a lot.
To address the bouncy platform issue: I've seen a few people struggle with these, and you've made it clear that I should work on demonstrating what their use is. While you can get some height jumping on them, their main use is to bounce you back up whatever distance you fell from. As I continue working on the game, I'll definitely keep that in mind.
Thanks for trying it out! I'd love to see a full walkthrough of the demo

I've gone back and forth about this for a while, and I've finally decided to share something with everyone.
This game has been an idea I've pondered over for (this is insane to me) two years now. It started as a simple thought as I was walking off campus. There is a particular deadzone there, and the music in my headphones ceased in that particular spot on that particular day. For a moment, all was silent and I heard the 'thump thump' of my heart. I'm not going to pretend I understand the complex intricacies of ideas and why they come when they do. It's got to be something of an impossible mix in circumstance and sense. Nevertheless, that was when it came to me.
I spent nearly a year creating the project "Painless". It is in an unfinished state, but it was the thing I needed to truly mature the concept. (If you are interested, you can find it here https://green-panda-studios.itch.io/painless).
I'm a software engineering student, and thus my present self is in a perpetual three way battle with my time and my growing knowledge. Nevertheless, I've learned enough to know (or at least convince myself I know) what I need to do, and how to do it efficiently. That said, I was able to spend approximately 5 months and flesh out the foundation for "The Heart's Game". That includes the boring (to most) underlying data management systems to the cool (to look at) things like animations, models, and texturing.
I'm writing this to force my hand in a sense. I want to be better about sharing my work. As a creator, it is impossibly important to receive feedback about the things one creates. I'm asking for that, and I genuinely hope you will all answer the call, even if that is to criticize everything I've done.
With all that out of the way, here is a look at some of the things I've been working on. Bear in mind, this is a collection of 5 months, and many things are out of order in that sense. Moving forward, I will be better at logging specific improvements at specific times. What you need to know is "The Heart's Game" is the only truly physics based puzzle platformer where you play as the heart. And, I ask you all, what do you think it's about?
Thank you for the advice, I think I am going to hold off on publishing anything, as I am at least a good year or two away from the project I want to end with, especially considering college. Sometimes I just get restless working so hard on something I can't show the world.
I do have friends and family (anyone who will, really) play-test my games often. A great debugging process is watching someone after handing them a controller and saying "Try to break this"; so, you are right about that.
It's refreshing to read something from someone who really sounds like they know the ins and outs of game development. Are you a developer?
Thank you, I appreciate you taking the time to respond with such a well thought out answer.
This post is currently the only piece of this game to be found on itch, it does not have it's own page or anything of the sort. I was considering starting with a Devlog, so that's where I am coming from. I apologize if there was confusion about that. Should I put something up and not worry about a Devlog yet?
I'm just hesitant about showing something so early in development.
Hi everybody,
I've been in development of a new project for a few months now. It's coming along well, and is in a solid and "playable" state as is. That said, it is a heavily story-driven game, and much of that has yet to be incorporated. As it stands, there is only a solid code base for the gameplay elements and the parts required to piece the story together. In other words, all the complicated "how-its-gonna-work" stuff is mostly finished, but there's nothing to really play yet.
I am a broke solo dev and a full time Software Engineering student doing everything myself, so the slow progress has slowed even more since the start of this semester. My question is this: I would like to start a devlog to get people excited about the game and get the support of the community as I develop it further, but I'm worried the slow changes may leave people disinterested after a while, does this seem like a good time to begin a devlog?
I've attached a few screenshots and a video below for some context of where the game is:
