The art was something I was hecking anxious about, not being a artistic person and such. I'm glad you enjoyed it! Behind the scenes bit; the 3D section's lighting was initially completely different. But to get the 2D lighting, I had to choose between it and 3D lighting. It kinda works though, looks cartoony and like it's a artistic choice. Thanks for playing!

Noo! That camera panning bug is the game breaking bug I hoped to patch out. I'm glad ya like the strangeness, I would have loved to make it longer too. Though I think the strangeness is gonna be a running theme in my games going forth, life's too short not to be weird. Thanks for playing my lil' weird game!

Thanks! I'm currently working on a Internet game server and client I wrote for coursework, it's a mega pain in the butt. I hope you enjoyed the game regardless of if quirkiness. Tbh, it would have made a lil' more sense if there were't some cut content. There's half a modelled 3D bedroom in the code somewhere.

Woo! Nice, thanks for checking it out! Maybe not 100% horror but there's some spooky moments.

Hahaha, thanks! I tried to make the story a lil' confusing without being too confusing. There have a been a lot of games that I've liked, but the story has been all metaphor with no plot. Hope you still enjoyed it regardless! If you end up thinking about it later and have any theories about it, I'd love to hear 'em.

Thanks! It's a shame but most of the core ideas are in there!

At the time it was completely unplayable but I finished it this morning. It's still missing some sound effects but it's mostly complete.

Turns out that won't be needed. I got up early and finished it off, though I had to cut the battle system.

Sadly, it's not gonna be done in time. My coursework took priority over the game and it won't be finished by 12:00 tomorrow (my time). I'll continue working on it in my own time. Best of luck to everyone who submitted thus far, and those are just about to upload their own creations!

Yeah, just a little bit. Though that's what makes jam games so interesting, gotta find ways to get maximum value out of minimal systems. I wrote my own engine for a piece of coursework, and a server too. Using Unity is like a breath of fresh air compared to my own [buggy as heck] home-brew software. It's one of the reasons I chose to participate. Hopefully people will enjoy the finished game!

Thanks! Hopefully it'll live up to expectations, I don't think it'll be a long game but hopefully it'll be something that leaves people thinking a little after finishing it.

A Magical Girl Crashed Through My Roof So We Went On An Adventure (or something like that)

Got the finals of my intro cinematic done today, I think it's a smashing success. Working on a simple battle system now, nothing too special but enough to get the job done. The main thrust of the gameplay will be with its narrative, which I've been thinking a lot about. However, I'm also right in the middle of working on final year university coursework - including my dissertation. Hopefully something will be finished, even if it's not quite what I had planned. Also; need to find music! I'm planning to make some of it myself.

Either way, this'll be a game about two people going on an adventure. Discovering new things about themselves, and where they've ended up. Meanwhile, characters known as the 'Lost' are trying to prevent them from investigating the world further.

👋

  1. Heyo, I'm Jesse Kaw!
  2. Artist (for the first time!) and programmer - having worked on a few game jam games in the past, such as ATTACK_PATTRN and Strayation.
  3. I have a friend helping, we have all bases covered.
  4. Well, my game's called "A Magical Girl Crashed Through My Roof So We Went On An Adventure (or something like that)" which I think tells you what you need to know!
  5. Either here or on Twitter!
  6. Fresh off the heels of finishing 'The Demon Girl Next Door', I'm pretty excited to make my own magical girl! Momo was a super cute, calm, and collected.

Thanks for the article! I think that collections can be undervalued by some people but they're real useful and dang influential - as someone who frequently looks for collections on game assets. I'll be pointing people to this when they ask for pointers for publishing on Itch.

Is this the Dark Souls of bullet hell inspired attack pattern design games?!

Thanks for playing and I'm glad you had fun. I was thinking of ways that it could adhere to the theme while adding a little twist of another genre in there. Though it's not really bullet hell-y  as I'd like but the number of bullets had to be drawn in to make it challenging. I have some ideas for a follow up at some point, but for now I'm focusing on expanding my engine before tackling something a little more serious.

Thanks for the feedback!

I feel the same way, there were 4 levels planned originally. With the final level being with Teleporter Tom who will teleport instead of moving, with the cooldown between teleports being determined by how far they had to teleport. I might flesh this out into a more complete game, I was saying on Twitter, that it might make a fun mobile toilet game as well as a fun PC game.

In fact Tom's level is still in the game, though the AI isn't working properly so I had to cut it last minute - since the submission time was 04:00 my time and I needed to sleep.

Great attitude kid

Heyo!
I was thinking of making a game that could have light novel elements but also some other gameplay elements. For example, if a in-game day were divided into 2 sections, a light novel-esque section and then an RPG-esque section following that. Would that kind of experience be okay to submit?

Hi Pishenden

Unfortunately, NW.js which is used to run the game has dropped XP support. However, if you go into the package.nw folder and open up index.html in a modern browser - Chrome should work perfectly - then you should be able to play.

Sorry about that, let me know if you're having any more troubles.

(I just checked in Firefox and it's playable, the pog betting slider isn't formatted correctly but it's playable, this almost certainly won't work in IE)

You're the ultimate pog fucker!
