Thank you so much! That's a really excellent recommendation, I'll likely make an updated version with that change in mind. And you're right that we didn't provide enough time, we could definitely have included a difficulty setting for slower readers. Our goal is was to make a game for everyone after all. Your review is really appreciated, thank you again!
Design: The game needs more objectives. Even just a minute timer and score tracker could be enough to give this game some more meaning.
Presentation: The game looks nice and is well lit. Some intense music could have helped the pacing.
Theme: This is what I feel is the weakest aspect of the game. Without an objective, I could pretty much do whatever I wanted at whatever pace I wanted.
Interesting concept and great use of the theme. The level design was linear, but I feel like that fit the mechanics really well. There were times I got hard locked and sometimes the control item drops got stuck in the wall. The graphics and music were pleasant and complimented the game well. Great work here. I think this concept could be pushed further if you ever wanted to continue it.
Quick note: Maybe don't have the arrows roll around, it's impossible to know which is which.
Really great game, especially for a solo developer doing art and music. The graphics are nice and clean and the game controlled really well. I was surprised by how well it worked, especially for a browser game.
Design: The core gameplay loop was fun, but needed a few small tweaks to really shine. Some attacks had great impact, like the bazooka, but I would have pushed it further. Screen shake and more sound effects for every hit would give the game extra juice.
Graphics: Wonderful work here. Only thing that might be needed is to hide the trees in front of the camera, which got in the way at times.
Theme: I wish you would have pushed the theme further. The risk/reward mechanic always made me want to not take the risk and just protect the dog. The only times I choose not to were when I was forcing myself to have fun. I agree with the other comment that breaks would have been nice.
That was really fun! Seriously, great work overall, especially for a game jam. I think the use of theme was really strong, but I would have like to have the seen the level design support it more. Maybe zoom out the camera? It felt like I was quickly reacting as opposed to planning out a series of fish to latch on to. Still, wonderful work overall. The art's great, the game is fun, that's all you need.
The graphics were nice and the core gameplay loop was engaging. However, I felt that the game feel was lacking due to the sound design. Consider adding a slightly random death sound for enemies and give the gun sound effect more bass. There also should be an indication when I'm hit, either with sound or visuals and maybe even hit stun. Still, the game works very well and you did a good job.
